1. Intro
Well, we had a nice summer break with no newsletter, but there's enough going on now that I thought it was time to send one out. First of all, Kim has crawled out of her hole and re-joined us with her commercial comments. She explains her absence at the beginning of her column. Welcome back, Kim! You were missed.
Secondly, there are some big improvements to some of the TKTV show sites that you should check out.
First of all, we have a new editor of the TKTV Angel site. Please welcome Tom Hulse to the TKTV family and check out all the stuff he's already added to his show site. Wow, our first male editor.
Secondly, full episode guides have been completed for the second season of "Charmed" on the WB, the first season of "Jack & Jill" on the WB, the first season of "Popular" on the WB (which is such a wonderful show, and I'm so glad it was renewed for a second season), the first season of "Once and Again" on ABC, and the first season of "Malcolm in the Middle" on Fox (a fabulously unique comedy which everyone should get to know).
So, CBS finally launched the much-anticipated American version of "Big Brother." I've watched the first few episodes, and so far, it's fairly boring. They've introduced themselves, made a potato clock, done aerobics, and made plaster replicas of their faces. There is nothing as funny as Ramona realizing that she actually likes cooked rat meat on "Survivor," and the people just aren't as likeable as our Tagi and Pagong (soon to be Rattana) castaways.
The only thing I'm finding interesting is imagining myself in that house. What would I do? Who would I like? What would I talk about? But even as self-centered as I am, I grow tired of that game, and the fact that I have to play that game with myself as I watch the show just helps illustrate the fact that the show itself is not gripping me.
Since there isn't much else new on television these days, I'm going to give it a few more episodes, but this is not a show I would waste time on during a sweeps month.
I hope everyone is having a nice summer!

2. Letters from the viewing audience
From Ann:
I just discovered your website and enjoyed it very much. Here's a TV question I thought I'd run by you: I've seen every episode of "Malcolm in the Middle," but still do not understand the origin of the word "Krelboynes," the name they call Malcolm's gifted class. Do you know where it comes from?
Note from TK: Wow, I have no idea. Viewers? Has anyone heard this term before?
Letters from the viewing audience are always welcome. Please email any opinions, questions, comments, or random thoughts to TK at tk@tktv.net with the subject of "letters." Letters may be edited for length or content.

3. Kim's Commercial Comments
Hi gang! Wow, have I missed you guys. It seems like it's been forever since I wrote my trusty column in the TKTV Newsletter. In case you are wondering where I've been, I'll fill you in. I work in advertising and the great majority of my clients are politicians. So, when "election season" rolls around my work pretty much monopolizes my time (just ask my husband). Alas, the primaries and run-offs have come and gone (did I just say "alas"?) so my life has begun to return to normal. Naturally, I couldn't wait to get back to my weekly nit-picking of my favorite and least favorite TV commercials. So here goes...
What spot has me laughing? Burymeright.com: Your Way
This spot opens with a group of pallbearers moving a black casket down a path in a cemetery. As the camera angle changes, we see that the casket is cut into two pieces and the words "magician's assistant" appear on the screen. In another scene a series of cars whip past the camera on a dusty road. "Rally driver" is the caption on this one. Next, a woman peers into a casket, lowers her sunglasses for a better view, then nods in approval. "Porn star." There are a couple of other scenes, each one just as clever as these. The spot ends with the burymeright.com logo and the words "Go your own way."
I have to give them major points for this spot. I would never think about looking on the internet for a service like this. But I was so curious after seeing the spot that I had to check it out. Apparently they offer a way to record your last wishes to be sure your loved ones get it right when you bite the big one.
You'll have to go to adcritic.com or the burymeright.com to see this ad if you've missed it. According to the site, the ad has been "banned" from TV. I'd say it's worth the trip, though. Quite clever.
What spot has me cringing? Dominos: Bad Andy
Since when does Domino's have a muppet for a mascot? Did I miss something major here? For those of you who haven't seen them yet these spots feature one or more Domino's employees interacting with a little puppet character named Andy... no wait, Bad Andy. I don't know why he's bad except that I think he's trying to keep the pizza guys from delivering the pizzas. Maybe so he can eat them all for himself. Anyway, they're stupid spots not worthy of the airtime they eat up.
That's all the time we have for this week. Be sure to tune in next time for more.
If you have comments on my comments, you can email me at kim@tktv.net
