1. Intro

So I was a bridesmaid in a wedding in Virginia last weekend, and not only did I catch the bouquet, but I also met a guy (a boyfriend of one of the other bridesmaids) who used to write for "Newsradio." He is now working on the new animated comedy "Clerks" and the upcoming NBC Michael Richards sitcom. We both lamented the loss of the intelligent "Newsradio" which I still enjoy in syndication since I missed much of its original run, but I had to be honest with him about "Clerks." I have now seen two episodes of this show, and I just get more and more disappointed. Luckily, someone at ABC agrees with me, so now we get to watch fun "Spin City" reruns instead ABC's boring foray into the animated world.

CBS's "Survivor" is growing on me. I wonder how much longer this whole reality series craze is going to last. Get this! For the first two airings of "Survivor," ABC just sorta happened to schedule special episodes of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" against it. CBS said they were "miffed" by the move, but I'm sure they were really railing on ABC for wielding their heavyweight ratings grabber with such deadly accuracy. But last Wednesday "Survivor" actually beat "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" in the ratings. Yay! I never thought I'd actually be cheering for CBS, but apparently this game show nightmare makes people do strange things.

Fox is already retooling one of their new fall shows. It's called "Don't Ask," and it was supposed to star John Goodman as a gay father who lives with a straight roommate played by Tony-winner Anthony LaPaglia, and their respective kids. The show had a 13-episode order from Fox as early as March 6th, before LaPaglia was even cast. I guess they saw John Goodman's name attached to anything and jumped at the chance.

However, it looks like Fox wasn't happy with the end result. The pilot is being completely retooled to the point where Anthony LaPaglia's character no longer exists. Now Goodman will be living with his sister and his son, and the relationship between him and his son, played by Greg Pitts, will be emphasized. In addition, the setting has been moved from Los Angeles to the Midwest, and other characters are being cut or cast. They might as well have just designed a whole new show. Anyway, look for it on Wednesdays next fall on Fox.

Wish me luck! My pool team is playing in the New York City APA finals this coming weekend. If we win we get to go to Las Vegas in August.
